The Hybrid Pickup System

Questions from our customers

A website visitor asks:

Id like to tune up my bass with a hybrid pickup. Is it possible to use the existing 4 conductor pickup wiring and the toggle switch (on-on-on switch for single coil - parallel - serial mode) which is already installed on my bass?

Answer:
No. The DELANO "The Hybrid" pickup is not to be compared with normal humbucking pickups, which can be switched to single coil, parallel or serial modes. Even though The Hybrid is an magnetic pickup with different coil-settings, it obtains its superior ability to produce the authentic sound styles by a much more complex pickup-internal wiring and the external The Hybrid switching management. A genuine rendition is only possible through the exact usage of our wiring schematics, the 12 pin toggle switch and our specially designed two level treble pot. Any other installation will corrupt this system and is not able to deliver the "real thing".

A website visitor asks:
Does The Hybrid pickup work with every active electronics?

Answer:
We recommend the DELANO SONAR 2- or 3band EQ for perfect sound results, but in general it is possible to use the DELANO hybrid pickup system with every conventionally active 2- or 3 band electronics, because DELANO Hybrid pickups work strictly analogue without using tricky electronic stuff to perform the different styles. Please take note that we cant support third party electronics wiring schematics.

A website visitor asks:
Is it possible to get a custom Hybrid pickup in a soapbar cover, for example?

Answer:
No. An authentic reproduction of both classic sounds demands specific magnetic field widths, which are only given by the measurements of the Hybrid pickup shell (similar to MM-cover).

A website visitor asks:
Lots of manufacturers use MM-style pus in their basses. So please tell me, whats so special about the hybrid pickup - is it only the mixture of different pole pieces known from JB and MM basses?

Answer:
Definitely not. The usage of the original 5 and 9.5 mm diameter  AlNiCo 5 pole pieces is only one part of a more complex system, so that an only similar looking pickup, for example, is not a hybrid pickup. The Magic of the DELANO Hybrid pickup system lies in the specially engineered bridge J-coil (which integrates the second MM-coil inside) and the internal and external fully analogue switching management. Only these ingredients guarantee a true and warm authentic sound.

A website visitor asks:
Im the happy owner of a DELANO hybrid driven bass, and everything sounds like it should! But sometimes theres some hum and hiss while playing in active mode and addding the neck pickup. Is there anything defect with my bass?

Answer:
No. Uniting the tonal characteristics of this two basses the pure way - a full passive JB and an active humbucking MM - requires a single coil pickup wiring for the neck pickup and the "Jay"-part of the hybrid pickup, so that hum is a naturally result of this design in some settings. In the humbucking mode we call it the "Ray" mode youre able to combine the hybrid pickup with the neck pickup, too. This is an additional feature. But take note, that use of the neckside single coil pickup in may cause hum, if driven with the active electronis. To achive an authentic "Ray" sound, you should turn the balance knob fully backwards - and so your bass is hum-free and dead quiet now.

A website visitor asks:
Id like to use your pickup in a bass project. My electronics require passive pickups. Is the pickup itself passive or active?

Answer:
The DELANO Hybrid pickup is a passive working magnetic pickup, which can be used with every conventionally active electronics under exact application of our wiring schematics.
